Last week we went to Washington DC for the spring break with an initial stop in National Harbor, a little place just outside DC. I was a little bit set back by all the negative reviews I have read on the internet, only to discover that the place is actually quite enjoyable for a day or two.
I absolutely loved Gaylord National Convention Center. Was so impressed with the architecture and the massive, dual-leveled atrium.
Have I mentioned it is even more beautiful at night time?
There is a little bit of something for everyone in the mix of stores and boutiques here. My daughter has really enjoyed the Peeps Store (I have tried them for the first time too..not quite my cup of tea, way too sweet)
and the Awakening sculpture (a bearded giant with a head, hand, outstretched arm, bent knee and foot arranged to suggest that he is breaking free from the earth)
We have also discovered a very cute cake shop CakeLove with a nice selection of cupcakes. They were yummylicious….the Key Lime Pie one… to die for
The views of the Potomac River are beautiful, and the entire place seems so tranquil and inviting. Nothing better than a walk along the marina, a blazing sunset and a glass of wine.
